About the Artist
DAZE
United States
Graffiti legend Chris Ellis, aka Daze, began painting trains in the South Bronx in 1977. He remembers the colorful masterpieces from that time, the excitement behind the color and the impression they produced. His graffiti led to being included in Martha Cooper’s street art bible Subway Art and cult graffiti films such as Style Wars and Spray Can Art. He is also known for being one of the first writers to successfully transition from painting trains to painting canvases. Daze has contributed two murals to the Wynwood Walls including one inside the Wynwood Doors. He is very proud to be part of the exhibit: “You look at the level of quality within the work-it’s like an arena of art where you go in and if you’re going to do something, you look at what everybody else did and you’ve got to do something that holds up to that work.”
