Boom Box Magenta Candle
When the pandemic hit, costume designer David Ochoa quickly realized he had plenty of free time on his hands. That's when he decided to turn his passion for candle-making into a side business from his cozy bungalow in Venice Beach.
Drawing inspiration from sculptural artists and a mid-century modern aesthetic, David set out to create unique wax wonders that had a distinct southern Californian vibe to them. He spent countless hours working on one-of-a-kind molds that were architecturally influenced, yet laced with a sense of humor that was uniquely David.
Each of David’s candles was designed to be more than just another product on a store shelf. They were each a work of art--a carefully crafted piece that was meant to evoke emotion and create ambiance in any room. From the 80s boom box to the hi-top sneaker and the cult glow candle, David's candles were unlike anything you've ever seen before.
But it wasn't just the unique designs that made these candles special. David was committed to using only the best materials, including a soy blend that provided a cleaner, longer-lasting burn than traditional wax candles. And with unusual hues that included a one-of-a-kind splatter-paint technique, each candle was a true masterpiece in its own right.
The Boom Box Candle, measuring 8 1/2”x 4”x 3” and weighing in at a whopping 45 ounces, was David's personal favorite. With its intricate design and elegant curves, it was a true testament to David's skill as an artist and his commitment to producing the finest candles around.
