Scott Froschauer is a Los Angeles-based experimental artist originally from Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in theoretical linguistics before relocating to Los Angeles in 1994, where he initially worked as a key grip in the film industry on productions including The Lost World: Jurassic Park. His primary artistic focus is on exploring new spaces and techniques for communication. He is best known for "The Word on the Street," a series of public art installations that modify the familiar shape, color, and typeface of everyday traffic signs, replacing warnings with positive affirmations. The series has been installed as public art in cities across America. In 2018, "Word on the Street" was included in the Smithsonian's "No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man" exhibition at the Renwick Gallery in Washington, D.C.
