SHOK-1 is pleased to announce the release of ‘Ink’, a limited edition print in two colourways. ‘Ink’ is printed in exactly the same size format and colours as ‘Can’ to make a perfectly matching diptych.

The print portrays the anatomy of a marker pen, as integral to graffiti and street art as a brush is to an oil painter. A brand new marker full of ink, ready for action, is juxtaposed with the marker empty and worn after putting in heavy duty. The image symbolises both the medium and the artists themselves reaching a point of maturity in the culture over time.


SHOK himself is skilled with the marker, although obviously better known for his mastery of spraypaint. His first street works in the early 80s were actually rendered in marker. He has revisited it regularly throughout his career, for example in 2009 with a series of innovative canvases using a simple marker pen to paint in a chiaroscuro style paraphrasing the techniques of classical oil painting.

These editions are produced to our usual excellent standards with the highest quality archival pigment inks and paper and include a hand-silkscreened varnish to protect and enhance the image.

Each print is individually signed and embossed by SHOK-1 and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
